Welcome to Plan Nicaragua

Nicaragua is the largest country in Central America. The landscape is characterised by its numerous lakes, forests, active volcanoes and mountains. Children comprise more than half of the population.

The fight against silence and isolation in the Autonomous North Atlantic Region
“I am 46 years old and I had never seen before a hurricane like this. It destroyed everything,” said Guillermo Simón a citizen of Puerto Cabezas in Nicaragua.

Plan supports the recuperation of the affected families. At the moment, it continues being the only NGO who collaborates in a direct way with the affected families and in the rehabilitation of the school activities.

Irrigation enables families to grow their own vegetables
The biggest problem facing families trying to grow their own vegetables is the shortage of water: making them vulnerable to food shortages during dry spells

Drought, government cutbacks in health and education, and a continuing coffee crisis left many of the poorer people of Nicaragua even more vulnerable. Plan works with children and communities to find ways to break the cycles of poverty and provide opportunities for children to realise their potential.
