Welcome to Plan Timor-Leste (East Timor)

About Timor Leste
For 500 years, the island nation of Timor has been controlled at the hands of others. First the Portuguese, then the Indonesians. Recently the Timorese Leste people had a real chance to master their own destiny.

But, instead of jubilation, the aftermath of the ballot resulted in an atmosphere of terror and fear.

Typically the average family in Timor Leste are the ones to suffer as a result of this instability.

Our work
Plan is committed to helping make a difference to their lives. Plan's approach is always to work with communities so that change is instigated and directed by local people. Our experience has proven that success is assured if local indigenous knowledge, systems and resources are integrated with Plan's more conventional methods.

Plan's regular programs are on hold whilst we implement emergency programs. Since 2000, we have focussed on the Aileu district, mainly on ECCD (early childhood care and development), as well as school-based water and environmental sanitation, youth mobilisation, primary school teacher training and health post revitilisation.
