Quick introduction to Thailand:
Known as Siam until 1932, it is the only Southeast Asian country that has never been under colonial rule, and today has a constitutional monarchy

The role of agriculture (traditionally the backbone of Thai society) is declining. The main crops include rice, cassava, sugarcane, maize and rubber – much of which are exported. Rice is the country's staple food and largest agricultural export.

Thailand has a free, compulsory education system offering nine years of education. With almost 90% of children attending school, it has one of the highest literacy rates in the developing world. Although many families find it hard to support their children through school, the importance of education is generally recognised.

Plan works in the poorest regions, concentrating particularly on projects covering preventative health, education, environment conservation and occupation promotion.
