Challenges for children
Vietnam was the first country in Asia, and the second in the world, to ratify the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Governmental commitment to the eradication of poverty and hunger, and child poverty in particular, is strong. However, in spite of these efforts, child poverty in Vietnam remains widespread.
In Vietnam, 40 of every 1,000 babies do not reach the age of five. The situation for the children in rural and mountainous areas is a particular concern, especially regarding health and education.
The increasing exploitation of children, and the increasing number of street children in Vietnam’s cities is unfortunately a large problem which is continuing to grow along with the economy.
