Plan Europe

Plan Europe is a regional network within Plan International which links the 10 Plan national organisations in European Union (EU) member states, and our program country offices around the world, with our EU liaison office in Brussels.

Through the EU liaison office we pursue our goal to ensure that the promotion and protection of children's rights is a priority in the EU's development policy and that children's voices are heard in the decision-making processes.

What we do.

Our main activities are:

1. To ensure the development of an EU Strategy on the Rights of the Child by 2009, which is based on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and applies equally to policy and actions both inside and outside the EU.

2. To ensure adequate funding for child rights in the policies and actions of the European Commission.

3. To support Plan's national organisations and global advocacy initiatives at the EU level. Areas of focus include:

  • birth registration
  • violence against children
  • social protection
  • girl’s rights
  • children affected by HIV and AIDS
  • children and armed conflict
  • development education.

4. To help Plan's EU-based national organisations to access European Commission funding, while seeking to influence the Commission's funding policies according to Plan's vision and mission.
